Project overview
After years of this property sitting idle, in 2017 FGC acquired this asset to revitalize this steel-rooted community. WFC is positioned to attract world-class heavy industry in the petrochemical, value-added metals, energy, and transportation-logistics industry clusters, among others. There is no other site like WFC, and we are committed to create lasting economic impacts as a product of our sweat and capital investment into the site.
History of location (1909 - 2016)
Weirton Steel was a critical steel producing artery for the country for many years, particularly during WWII. Founded by Ernest T. Weir, Weirton Steel was a world class integrated steel mill like no other. After challenges during the Great Depression, the steel industry adapted to help the nations war efforts. In March of 1929, Weirton Steel became the first member of the steel industry to respond, establishing a special plant committee, and soliciting suggestions from employees.
